Non-SPAM Email & The CAN-SPAM Act of 2003
What is SPAM? SPAM is unsolicited email, plain and simple... Right?
With the increasing popularity of the web and of the use of email, advertisers have developed techniques for mining email addresses from the web in order to advertise the products and services of their clients. The volume of email sent on any given day is astronomical! The amount of it that constitutes unsolicited mail is huge. The email servers of the world have been over run with this sort of mail.
SPAM email can turn your prospects off. More than that, there are now fines and other penalties for SPAM. SPAM has created a market for software to filter suspected SPAM from email recipients. These software packages are far from perfect, sometimes filtering legitimate email incorrectly, and sometimes failing to filter true SPAM.
There are also many hacks for defeating SPAM filters, some unconscionable, some quite legitimate. Because SPAM is a real issue, and is a hot topic among direct marketing concerns, we have dedicated this section of the AWM publication to addressing it.
SPAM is not the canned food...
What are ways that you can avoid SPAM and still get your message out? What can you do to filter SPAM from your website and email address? What are the legal ramifications of SPAM?
This area of the site contains articles, notes, and links to other resources that will help you answer these and other questions.
