Content Management Systems
Content Management Systems have become one of the fastest growing areas of the web software marketplace in recent years. From enterprise solutions for massive corporate sites and newspaper publications, to the small online retail store, all can be run advantageously with one or more of the products available. Some function entirely via database servers, while others create static HTML pages and publish the new or altered ones each and every time a change is made live.
The differences extend to simple content editors to the true content or document management systems. Some allow for multiple users to simultaneous edit a single page, while others of the simpler variety do not. The feature lists vary greatly. In past years, many included personalization tools, while today that aspect has reverted to separate specialized products.
What is Content Management?
What exactly does Content Management mean? What are the distinctions between document management and content management? What is the difference between a page editor and a CM system? How do you choose which is right for you? How do you know what to look for? How much should you spend? Should you use a hosted solution or purchase the software outright? What are features that you need, and what do you NOT need?
