What You See Is What You Get: Editing Content

WYSIWYG Editors have become one of the most sought after tools for designers and developers. Unfortunately, most systems alter code in non-standard ways, leaving the more technical of us feeling somewhat agitated. While some editors are stand alone applications designed to run on a local computer, others have been developed to run on servers for access across the internet.

What You See Is What You Get

Of course, these WYSIWYG editors come in all sizes and shapes... From the highly commercial products from Microsoft FrontPage and Macromedia DreamWeaver to Open Source editors, there are pros and cons: some change code to proprietary structures, like MS FrontPage, which uses Bots and Front Page extensions on the server to enhance functionality. Others leave your code, bad as it is, all alone to fend for itself...

Costs & Benefits of WYSIWYG editing?

What exactly does WYSIWYG mean? What is the difference between a page editor and a CM system? How do you choose? How do you know what to look for? How much should you spend? What are features that you need, and what do you NOT need?

This area of the site contains articles, notes, and links to other resources that will help you answer these questions.
